Heroes
by Gerald Sibleyras, translated by Tom Stoppard, Directed by Ed Knights
June 5, 6, 12, 13 at 8PM
Tom Stoppard's translation of Gerald Sibleyras' "Heroes" is a seductive fusion of the comic, sad, and absurd. The setting is a nursing home for disabled veterans outside Paris in the 1950's. Despite war wounds, agoraphobia, and fainting spells, three veterans of World War I plot their escape from the nuns. Their task is complicated by the decision to take a large statue with them. At times achingly funny, at times piercingly sad, the play is wonderfully entertaining. Will today be the day they finally make it to Indochina...or perhaps only as far as the top of the hill?
